Bennett is acknowledged as one of the early major figures in the studio furniture movement, but his work as a maker of roach clips in the 1960’s is what launched his career, a fact he openly celebrates rather than quietly conceals.
All during his time as a well-known furniture maker, he made paintings and jewelry, under the pseudonym Ambrose Pilfister. Now more or less out of the closet on that other work, he’s embraced it again; but with 40 years of experience under his sizeable belt, what spills out are these little sculptural gems that contain, in microcosm, all the wonderful playfulness, irreverence and beauty of his iconic furniture pieces.
