Sonya Clark receives Cranbook Academy of Art's first Distinguished Mid-Career Artist Award

Sonya Clark, a 1995 graduate of The Cranbrook Academy of Art, and currently Chair of the Crafts and Material Studies program at Virginia Commonwealth University, has been awarded the Academy's first Distinguished Mid-Career Artist Award.

Clark, whose work as artist, educator and critic have received national recognition, will be the subject of a solo exhibition at Snyderman-Works Galleries opening October 1, 2011. That exhibition will then travel to the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, Texas, where it will open on December 8, 2011. A color catalogue will be available.

Featured in that exhibition will be 'Madam CJ Walker', originally shown at the inaugural exhibition of the Museum of Art and Design, New York, in 2009, and currently on exhibition at the Milwaukee Museum of Art.
